Fixing rosettes distribute the force exerted by the screw or plug over a larger area of the insulation. They hold the panel firmly in place without crushing it or piercing it. The TD-60 PVC rosette is a fixing accessory designed to be used in conjunction with a timber screw to secure insulation boards to a timber frame in external thermal insulation systems. With a diameter of 60 mm, it distributes the clamping force across the insulation.

Fitted with a fold-down cover to protect the screw head, it is supplied in packs of 100, making it convenient for quickly fitting a timber-framed façade.

External thermal insulation fixing rosette: role and uses

A wide base for a securely fixed insulation panel

A fixing washer is a rigid disc, made of plastic or PVC, placed beneath the head of a screw or plug. It distributes the pressure across the insulation and prevents the fastener from sinking into the panel. The more flexible the insulation, the larger the washer needs to be. It is used in three situations:

On timber studs or a timber substrate. The insulation is not fixed with an expansion plug but with a timber screw. The fixing disc then acts as the head: it is what presses the panel against the studs.
On rock wool. A large-diameter cover plate (90 or 140 mm depending on the manufacturer’s specifications) clips onto the head of the plug to increase the bearing surface. The Fassatherm Plus MW Technical Data Sheet (DTA) requires this for certain dual-density panels.
On fibrous insulation. A wide rosette minimises the ‘quilted’ effect – those visible dips and bumps beneath the render.

The TD-60 PP rosette with an external thermal insulation system (ETIS) cover is designed for timber screws. It is sold in packs of 100.

Fitting an external thermal insulation (ITE) rosette: screwing, flush fitting and cover

A flush fit for a seamless finish

A correctly fitted rosette sits perfectly flush: neither sunk into the insulation nor protruding. Otherwise, it will leave a mark on the render or cause a star-shaped crack. Installation on a timber frame, using a TD-60 rosette and a timber screw:

Position the rosette on the panel, opposite a stud.
Screw it in until the rosette is flush with the insulation, without compressing it.
Snap the cover into place.

The cover conceals the screw head and provides a flat surface for the base coat. It also minimises thermal bridging and prevents localised damp around the screw. On wood fibre boards, such as Gutex Thermowall-L, allow for approximately 8 fixings per m² on 1200 × 400 mm panels. Always follow the manufacturer’s fixing plan. On masonry with rock wool, the anchor rosette is clipped onto the head of the anchor before installation. In all cases, check that the surface is level using a straightedge before applying the base coat: this is essential for a flawless finish.
