The finishing coat is the final layer of external thermal insulation: the one that is visible and which is exposed to rain, sun and dirt. RX 561 Pastel 1.5 mm 25 kg – Fassa acrylic-siloxane façade coating

Fassa’s RX 561 Pastel 1.5 mm is a paste-based finishing coat made from acrylic copolymers and polysiloxanes, supplied in 25 kg buckets. Ready to use, it is applied with a trowel to façades to provide a rustic, decorative and protective finish, whether on traditional lime-cement render or on the FASSATHERM external thermal insulation system (ETIS).

Its pastel base can be tinted using the ColorLife tinting system, allowing you to achieve the desired colour for your project. The product incorporates protection against the growth of algae and mould, good water vapour permeability and low absorption of liquid water, ensuring the façade is durably protected from the elements.

External thermal insulation (ITE) finishing coat: siloxane or silicate – what’s the difference?

Choosing the render that really protects your façade

The finishing render for an external wall insulation system (EWIS) is selected on the basis of three criteria: the façade’s exposure, the type of insulation and the desired finish. Centrale ITE offers two ready-to-use paste renders, both approved for use in Fassatherm systems:

RX 561, a compact acrylic-siloxane coating. It repels water (low water absorption, W3) whilst remaining moderately vapour-permeable (V2). It is classified as A2-s1,d0 for fire resistance and is protected against algae and mould thanks to its microfibres and additives. It is the safe choice for façades exposed to rain, in damp or wooded areas.
Fassil R 336, a rustic silicate-based coating. It is a mineral finish based on potassium silicate, highly vapour-permeable (V1, Sd < 0.14 m). It allows breathable insulation materials, such as rock wool and wood fibre, as well as older building structures, to breathe, and ages like a mineral render.

Both are available in a 1.5 mm grain size, with a rustic, trowelled finish that effectively conceals minor imperfections in the surface. For façades that have already been rendered, MR 287 paint provides a covering, slightly rough finish.

Applying a finishing coat to external wall insulation: primer, coverage and conditions

A flawless finish, step by step

The finishing coat is applied to a completely dry base coat, following the application of a suitable primer, in a single trowelled pass of uniform thickness. The primer.

Under RX 561, apply FX 526 (0.12 to 0.16 l/m²), tinted to match the colour of the finish.
Under Fassil R 336, use a silicate primer, or FX 526 if the substrate is not very absorbent.

Application. Spread the compound with a stainless steel trowel, then finish it with a plastic trowel using circular movements. Work continuously from one corner to the next to avoid overlapping. Allow 2.4 to 2.7 kg/m² of RX 561 at a thickness of 1.5 mm. Precautions:

apply at temperatures above +5 °C (+10 °C for Fassil R 336), away from direct sunlight, rain and strong wind;
use the same production batch for each façade to avoid colour variations;
never use the 0.6 mm grain size on external thermal insulation;
on ground floors exposed to impact, provide double reinforcement: the Technical Assessment limits impact resistance to Category II when using RX 561.

Things to consider before choosing your shade
