Description
The FKL Kardigan fire barrier strip, 180 mm thick, is an ACERMI-certified rock wool fire barrier designed for external thermal insulation systems (ETIS). Measuring 1200 x 200 mm, it is integrated into the façade to limit the spread of fire through the insulated wall. Non-combustible and compatible with the main rendered EWI systems, this strip meets the regulatory fire safety requirements applicable to buildings open to the public and to multi-occupancy dwellings.

The FKL Kardigan fire barrier strip, 180 mm thick, is an ACERMI-certified rock wool fire barrier product designed for use in external thermal insulation systems. Its role is to create a non-combustible barrier at regular intervals along the façade, in order to limit the vertical spread of fire through the insulation layer. This fire-break requirement applies in particular to blocks of flats and buildings open to the public, for which regulations impose specific provisions when the façade insulation is combustible or slightly combustible. Made from rock wool, a naturally non-combustible material, this strip integrates easily into external thermal insulation systems (ETIS) using common insulation materials such as expanded polystyrene or wood fibre, whilst ensuring the continuity of the façade’s thermal insulation. Measuring 1200 x 200 mm and 180 mm thick, it is installed as part of the overall layout of the external thermal insulation system, using adhesive and/or mechanical fixing in accordance with the recommendations of the technical approval for the chosen system. Facade contractors, thermal engineering consultancies and project managers will find this ACERMI-certified fire barrier strip to be a reliable solution for incorporating fire safety requirements into their external thermal insulation projects, whether in new-build or energy-efficient refurbishment schemes.
This fire barrier is all too often overlooked in quotations, even though it meets a strict regulatory requirement for many multi-occupancy buildings insulated with combustible materials. Check the installation frequency required by the technical approval for your external thermal insulation system; this varies depending on the height of the building.
